New Art Class Choices!!

Hello all you "art-y" people out there.  We have some very exciting news from the Middle School Art Rooms!!!! ALL middle school students will now have the opportunity to sign up for and take Art classes - this includes students who are interested in taking music as well.  We have 5 Art offerings for you to choose from beginning this coming school year (2018-19):

                 Art FUNdamentals: This is an introductory Art class. If you just want to try an art class, or                                                    are interested in exploring what making art involves, this is your                                                            class! We will learn about the Elements & Principles of Art and                                                              Design while exploring a variety of art making materials. So, it will                                                      be a little bit of everything!

                 Art 3D:  In this class, we will explore the Principles of Design while creating a variety of                                   3-dimensional projects. Possible art materials could include: clay, wood, found                                     objects and more!

                 Art: Drawing and Design: This class is a perfect choice for students who love to draw.  We                                                             will focus on developing drawing skills through various projects                                                             and explore using different drawing tools.  We will also learn                                                                 how to create more interesting artworks through the use of                                                                     design.  *Pre-Requisite: Art FUNdamentals

                 Art: Painting and Mixed Media:  Do you love color? Love painting?  This class will                                                                                  explore a variety of painting styles and techniques to                                                                              help improve your painting skills.  You will also learn                                                                              how to incorporate a variety of other materials into your                                                                          paintings. *Pre-Requisite: Art FUNdamentals

                 Art Hobbies: This class is designed for students who want to explore a variety of art                                                   forms.  Do you want to explore art forms beyond drawing and painting?  We                                         will explore art forms that could possibly lead you to a new hobby!                                                       Possibilities include; fiber arts, jewelry, stamp making, paper-making or                                                 even soft sculpture!

Each class will be 9 weeks long, and is open to ALL students in grades 6, 7 & 8!  The best part?? You can take them all! 

So excited for all the new possibilities!!

7th grade students have been studying how to use value in their art.  Each student chose an animal they'd like to draw/paint.  Using a grid system, they drew their animal.  Painting has started...stay tuned for final artworks....

6th Grade Students have been hard at work creating Monster Pots.  Each student explored, planned and is building a different monster... Here are some shots of some in progress and some nearly finished. Be sure to check back to see the finished creatures!

Biggby Contest

In November, the middle school art classes had art displayed in our local Biggby coffee shop.  There were representatives for both Baldwin Street and Riley Street Middle Schools on display. The patrons and Baristas voted on their favorites. Check out the work by some of our very talented students.
